In Indonesia, there are more than 60 TV channels that can turn the public’s opinion in a blink of an eye. Most of the shows in this TV channel don't contribute to any educational purpose. As a result, crime rate is increasing since children saw it on TV and thought that its okay to do it according to the show. Also, level of education is decreasing since kids choose to watch the so-called entertaining show rather than studying. The only way to stop these tv show is when the government takes absolute control of the tv shows power. If the Government can decide which media that the public can access or watch, level of education will increase and this can be a method for a sustainable education for a country.
The first important step that government has is to replace the less educated TV with better programs. How about replacing soap operas with cultural shows— a show that will tell the children about culture from all around Indonesia? It will have a huge advantages to the public. They can respect Indonesia’s culture and be proud of it. Also, they won’t spend their time watching a show that doesn't have any educational lesson . Government can work together with TV channel to arrange a show that will serve two purposes for the public and also increasing rating for the channel or shows which will bring more income to the channel itself.
Government should also invest more in creating “local national geography” which shows how rich Indonesia is in natural and environmental aspect. The channel can also shows about fauna and flora in Indonesia and how to prevent them from extinction. Thus, viewers will realise how beautiful Indonesia is and they will think twice before they damage the ecosystem. Government should create a channel which shows information from all around the world therefore Indonesian citizen won’t be outdated about the news from other countries.
The third step is by deciding the right time to display the shows. Kids show shouldn't be on air at night. They should be doing homework and taking rest/sleep— I strong purpose this because nowadays, kids program are usually played from 4 o’clock in the afternoon until 9 o’clock at night. This means that the kids won’t study because they would prefer to watch the shows. Instead, adult shows should be on air at a time where kids aren't watching. However, the method should've supported by the parents
The fourth step is by giving a severe consequence to TV channel that still shows programs that teach violence or less educative. The punishment could be a fine or termination for the permission thus other TV channel won’t be doing the same thing and stop the shows. This method may sound harsh, but if the government decided to do take a full involvement in media, there will be no violence shown in TV since all the TV show must contain an educational program
I think, if the government decide to take full control of the media, there will be less uninformative TV shows and more educated shows that will benefit the country, there will be no TV shows that can affect child development in a bad way. Lets just say that this method will last for maximum 5 years , it is a short time but in those 5 years , more children will be educated in a good way and they will receive lots of knowledge about their own country and other countries. Later on, when these kids grow up and maybe some of them are important people in the government , they will continue this method to their kids and grandchild since they will feel the advantages from this method.
In conclusion, this method will be a sustainable solution to preserve children from bad influence from TV since it will last for a long time. The only thing needed is the full support from the government . All of the decision are in the government’s hand. What I believe is that if we want to create the world a better place, we should start with the TV programs that we watch everyday.
Hi! I personally agree with your notions, but for TV shows involving violence and maybe cop shows involving violence, I feel that at a young age that is the most appropriate time to start watching violent things, as they might not understand the circumstances and they will listen to our inputs on what's wrong and what's right. As we proceed through life and age, our stubbornness increase, and we will be involved with a lot of people with different opinions, so we may not take the information our parents give us so easily anymore. But overall, I respect your opinion on it!
